When each session switches its clocks

Three of the four sessions observe daylight saving on their own schedules. Sydney runs opposite to the Northern Hemisphere, and the overlap between London and New York shifts by an hour for several weeks each spring and autumn. The converter reads real IANA zone names via Intl.DateTimeFormat, so every transition is handled automatically.

New York has the longest DST stretch at 8 months (Mar–Nov). Its transition dates are offset from London's by about 2 weeks each season — so for a few weeks every spring and autumn, the London/NY overlap temporarily shifts by an hour. Most scheduling errors happen in those narrow windows.

When to use the timezone converter

This tool solves four common problems that forex traders face when dealing with session times across timezones. Each use case covers a real scenario where getting the conversion right directly affects trade execution or preparation.

Planning a trading session from a different country
You normally trade from London but you are travelling to Dubai for two weeks. Your usual routine has you watching the London open at 08:00 local. In Dubai (UTC+4 in winter, no DST), the London open displays at 12:00 local — right in the middle of the day. Use the converter to rebuild your schedule around the actual session hours in your temporary location, factoring in whether the UK is on GMT or BST at the time of travel.
Your session times follow you — but they shift relative to local clocks. Convert both your home zone and destination zone before you travel.

Setting price alerts for session opens
You want an alert 15 minutes before the New York open. Your broker platform runs on UTC+3 server time but your phone is on your local timezone. Converting 08:00 ET → UTC → broker time → phone time manually risks an error at each step. Select New York as the source and your phone timezone as the target — one conversion, no chain of manual arithmetic.
One conversion replaces a four-step manual chain. Every extra step is a chance to get the offset wrong.

Coordinating with traders in other regions
You are trading AUD/JPY with a partner in London while you are based in Los Angeles. The Sydney–Tokyo overlap (roughly 00:00–07:00 UTC) is 16:00–23:00 PST for you and 01:00–08:00 BST for them. Converting both perspectives to the same reference frame avoids scheduling mix-ups, especially during the DST transition weeks when one of you may have shifted clocks while the other has not.
During DST transition weeks, you and your trading partner may be on different offsets — check both sides before scheduling.

Auditing a trading journal across timezones
Your trade journal records entries in your broker server time (UTC+3). You want to cross-reference each entry against the session that was active at the time the trade was placed. Rather than manually computing UTC from server time and then checking each session, convert the broker time directly to each session zone to identify which sessions were open when each trade was executed.
